My father always used to say this to me when I was little. When i was younger, I never understood what it meant but now that I think about it, I get it. I remember one incidence when my dad and I were standing on the deck which was 3 stairs high. My dad jumped off of it without touching any of the stairs. He looked back and saw me jumping down the stairs one by one and then climbing back up. He told me not to play on the stairs because I could get hurt. I didn't think that it was fair that he could jump down them but I was not aloud to. I told him it wasn't fair and he told me, "Do as I say, and not as I do".
I am glad that my father had yelled at me and told me not to jump down those stairs because looking back, I could have gotten seriously hurt. He had much longer legs and I was only a little girl. At the time, i thought the saying "Do as I say, and not as I do", was unfair but now it makes sense to me.
