Behind the Masterpieces

Monet- The Clouds
I drew this painting in 1903 with oil on a canvas. I drew it for my mother. She really loves water lillies. They are her favorite plant. My small house is near this pond. It was a sunny day when I decided I wanted to paint this picture to thank my mother from everything she has done for me. I went outside and sat next to the pond. I drew the picture of the lillies and the pond. I decided to name is "The Clouds" because in the reflection of the pond, you can see the clouds. My mother loved it.

10 Things I expect in a Good Friend

  1. If a person wants to be my friend, they have to be able to have a good time on any day.
  2. I really dislike liars and if you lie to me, I would no londer be your friend.
  3. You need to be funny because everyone need a good laugh every once in a while.
  4. You better be able to keep your mouth closed if I tell you something personal.
  5. Friends have to tell me the truth, even if it makes me upset.
  6. I love to hangout with my friends, but you need to know I need my space sometimes.
  7. I can take a joke every so often, but don't go too far or it will make me mad.
  8. BE YOURSELF. The worst thing you could possible do is be someone you are not, just to be my friend. I acceppt people for who they are.
  9. I want you to be honest, but you need to know when to be suportive.
  10. The golden rule; Treat others how you want to be treated.

Heightened Description

I was shaking, shaking while waiting for the baby to be born. When I first saw her, my eyes were glassy. My throat was all choked up. The baby's cry pieced my ears, but was a beautiful sound. She was in my arms. They were so shaky, so were my knees. I sat in the chair, soft and cozy. Sitting in the cozy chair with my newborn cousin in my arms. My hands that were so gentle, touching her little hands and toes. She was so precious. The rest of the world didn't matter any more becasue the baby girl was safe in my trembling arms. So small and comfertable. My family and friends in awe, welcoming baby Jolene into the world.

Optical Illusions

http://brainden.com/optical-illusions.htm#!prettyPhoto[pp_gal]/7/

I see a face in the sky, but I also see two trees.

I see an old man looking at an old lady, but I                                          also see a vase.

I see a polar bear, but I also can see a seal.

"Possibility"

Do your eyes decive you?
Is what you see really there?
Are you sure?
Look with fresh eyes.

Eyes so pure
Mind so clear
Confussion is overwhelming
The impossible is possible.

I see beauty and horror.
Comedy and drama.
How is that possible?
Anything is possible.

Lucky Blog

My lucky item isn't a piece of clothing or shoes like most people. I have a stuffed animal from when I was a baby. It is a bunny rabbit (not so cleverly named) "Rabbit". I got the bunny when I was 6 months old on easter from my grandma. Nobody knows why I liked Rabbit more then any of the other toys I had but I fell in love. I still have the bunny to this day and she sits in my room all day everyday. I would bring her everywhere when I was a toddler. She has fell out of the wagon I was pulling at Gade farms one day, and also left at a restaurant for the night. She has arms that have been sewed up so many times, that I don't know what they looked lke originally. Her eyes have lose their color so she has sharpie pupils. Her nose has gotten eaten off by my dog so it it glued back on with super glue. No matter how ruined she is, I continue to keep her and I will until the day I die.

TU Tuesday- Presidential Speeches

http://www.gleeditions.com/speechtothesecondvirginiaconvention/students/pages.asp?pg=4

The "Speech to the Second Virgina Convention" was a speech given by Patrick Henry in 1775. The audience was the Virgina convention and the people that attended it. Patrick thought that Virgina should form a local militia in order to protect them selves and be prepared to fight the British. Patrick Henry was a strong believe in liberty and he believed that we deserved to be free from Great Britian. The speech was directed towards the president and in the speech, Patrick said a famous line that would be quoted to this day. That quote is "give me liberty, or give me death". I think that Patrick was trying to say that he would rather risk death or die fighting then he would rather sit back and have no liberty at all. I think that Patrick is a very good motivator and was fighting for a good cause.

T= TGI Fridays

T= TGI Fridays
TGI Fridays is located in Stuyvesant Plaza in Guilderland New York. TGI Fridays is a family oriented location with a bar in the center where meny people go to drink and enjoy sports game. It also has booths and tabels where a family can come sit down and enjoy a nice meal. The food is delecious and comes at a reasonable price. The service is good and the workers are usually friendly. The only con about TGI Fridays is that it is very popular. It can become crouded and busy to the point where you need to wait to be seated. It is most deffinatly worth the wait in my opinion.

Liar
You may never know
The truth
I’m sorry to say
I lied

I lied to you
No big deal
It really isn’t
But it was wrong

You don’t know.
You might never know
I lied
But I am not a liar.

Celebrate Life
It’s a smoky morning
The day is young
A baby is born
I smile joyfully
It is Magic

Rachel - in both poems I think you should step back from the poem and try to paint a picture rather than tell a story.  What does a liar look like?  What does a liar sound like?  What does a liar do with her hands?  How does she stand?
In the second poem, I like the way you started with a smoky morning - why not paint that picture fully?  I think you could wind up with a very nice poem by creating a magical scene instead of telling me it is magical.
Liar
You may never know
The truth
I’m sorry to say
I lied

I lied to you
No big deal
It really isn’t
But it was wrong

Eyes of sorrow
Face of guilt
Fearful of forgiveness

You don’t know.
You might never know
I lied
But I am not a liar.

The day is young
Smiles full of bliss
Eyes full of sparkles
Posture full of pride

I think that Mimi's advice was helpful to me because it improved my poems. In my original poems, I did not use as many describing words as I did in my revised poems. Mimi's sugesstions were very helpful to me as a poet.

Guest Speaker: Cheryl Charbonneau

Poise: Cheryl looked very comfertable in front of an audience because her voice was loud and confident and not quiet. She spoke loudly and with confidence and make direct eye contact with everyone in her audience durring her speach but in her acting, I would get side tracked because she was no longer communicationg with us and she was staring in the back of the room.

Clarity: Cheryl spoke clearly. I sat in the very front of the room so in my perspective, her voice was clear enough and I could understand her every word. I do not think she used unnecessary big words. I think her vocabulary was good for a class of 10th grade students.

Volume:  Considering that I sat in the front of the room, Cheryls voice was loud enough for me to understand her fully but for the people in the back of the room, I do not know how well they could hear her.

Information: It was deffinatly fun to have a guest speaker come in and talk to us but I don't think that she gave us very indepth information. We watched her act which felt kind of uncomfertable and she told us about our project which was kind of basic.

Organization: I think that Cheryl was organized becasue I understood what she was saying. She was prepared becasue she had her propts ready before hand.

My Role: I did not ask any questions because she explained everything clearly. Other kids in the class asked questions and I just took in the information.

The Future: I liked Cheryls speach. If your class does a monolouge, her information would be helpful but for our purposes to doing a skit with multiple people, her information was not as helpful. I would like to have another guest speaker come in at another time.
