heavily improvisational
improvisational: the act of making or providing from what materials are readily available
nary a swinging cane
nary: not any; no; never a
percussive rhythm
percussive: of, pertaining to, or characterized by percussion
traditional flamenco
flamenco: a style of instrumental or vocal music originating from southern Spain
conceptual artist
conceptual: the forming of a general notion or idea
These phrases were taken from an article called " Dance: Tap Dance Gets Back to its African Roots. It talks about how a current dance style (tap) is originated from Africa but it will never be the same in America as it is in Africa. I chose these phrases to teach and clarify about unique dance words that are not well known. The author states "This is impressive stuff: heavily improvisational, fast-paced and sweaty with nary a swinging cane, glittery red shoes or jazz hands in sight." The author was trying to show the difference of the intense tap in Africa and the showy dance in America. The author also says tap dance in Africa is "Just pure, percussive rhythm".
In the article the author gives some background on tap dance in Africa saying is was "derived from traditional flamenco." There are some famous tap dancers like Butterfly and Xumo Nunjo who are "conceptual artist(s) and musician(s) from Cameroon" The article gives great opinions and facts about tap dancing.

Love You Forever

Whenever I think of this book, I think of my childhood. I think of being at my grandmothers old house in the basement, sitting on her lap, listening to her read me this book from ages 3- around 8. My grandmother read this book to all of my cousins who are around my age and now that I have two little cousins, (ages 3 and 4) she now reads it to them. My grandmother would sing the words and her voice was so pure. This was my favorite book as a child and I still love it. My grandmother doesn't read it to us anymore but when ever she tells me she loves me I think, "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living, my baby you'll be." That is the line repeated throughout the book.

O- University of Oxford
Information taken from: http://www.ox.ac.uk/
I would want to attend based on...
1. One of my interests in Earth Sciences. "Oxford is one of the leading centres of geological research in the UK, with a score of 3.2 in the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) research assessment exercise."
2. I am also interested in the medical neurology. "The recent move to new high quality research and clinical facilities in the West Wing of the John Radcliffe Hospital, alongside the Department's world-class Oxford Centre for Functional MRI of the Brain (FMRIB), provides an ideal opportunity to translate our neurological research from bench to bedside."
3.The college has a lot of diversity."Our students come from 138 countries and our academic staff from 79."
4.This college is from out of the country and is located in the UK. They have offers and reduced prices on certain things for people overseas.
5. "A wide range of library services provided by more than 100 libraries, making it the largest university library system in the UK."
I would not want to attend based on...
1.Oxford college is located in the UK which is very far away. I am very family oriented and an only child to location is a big deal to me.
2.I like small schools because it would make me feel more at home. Oxford has "almost 20,000 students"
3.With the price of flights increasing, it would cost a lot of money just to get to the college as well is coming home multiple times throughout the year.

Title: Mrs. Bedell Parker
Site : http://old-picture.com/
Link: http://www.old-picture.com/american-legacy/014/Bedell-Parker-Mrs-001.htm
This picture represents fashion. These people are from the olden days but I think it it funny how the man's suit, looks very similar to a suit a man would wear today. The women in this picture are wearing huge hats with flowers and they are carrying fans and flowers in their hands. In the present people don't usually wear hats and they carry handbags and purses. The women are wearing very long and conservative dresses when people now might show some of their legs and arms. The people in the picture are also wearing gloves when you hardly see people now wearing gloves. The women all have short hair and even though some older women in the present time have short hair. It seems much more common in the picture. The only difference I see about the man's fashion is the hat in his hand. You don't see many men wearing hats like that anymore but the rest of his outfit is relatable to these days.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
In my younger, and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I've been turning over in my mind ever since.
My father would always say "Your family is the group of people who will always be there for you". At first I didn't understand what that meant but now I do. After high school, the drama will be over and my freinds will go away to college as well as me and my family will be the people who are always there no matter what.
My father is a smart man. When my father said that, he had the intention of telling me to be nice to my cousins and other family because they would be the people in the long run who are there for me, even in my old age.
The quote "Your family is the group of people who will always be there for you", has stuck with me. I am always nice to my family even in situations where they annoy me to no end because they are the people i love and care about most.

http://blog.timesunion.com/highschool/things-i-obsess-over-that-i-really-shouldnt-obsess-over/22732/
Zach Kilmer claims that he has OCD traits about certain things including the way his clothes are hung up, the way he organizes his online music player and his laptop desktop. Kach claims "I will not eat or sleep until every shirt is where it’s supposed to be in my color spectrum". I think he might be a little extreme, i don't believe that he actually "needs" his clothes to be in order that way. I believe he just like the way that looks and continues to do it that way. I think using the term OCD is dramatic and also disrespectful for people the actually deal with the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder life style. I'm glad that Zach gets enjoyment from his closet being in order but life's joys should not come from his organization, it should come from his friends, family, ect.

http://www.timesunion.com/default/article/Journalist-author-Christopher-Ringwald-dies-2189159.php
This article is about your average family man named Christopher Ringwald (age 55) who most likely took his own life by a three-story fall in a parking garage. Christopher was a very successful man who was "a well-known Capital Region journalist and author". This article in particular caught my attention because Christopher had three children and a wife. It surprises me that a man with a wife and family would do something so terrible." '...above all he loved his own family'...said Kevin Doyle, a lifelong friend". I do not understand the fact that a man with a seemingly happy life could be so depressed and feel so awful that they felt the need to take their life.
I was touched by this article because I have parents and family that truly cares about me. The thought of them jumping off a three-story building and dying is terrifying. I have sympathy for Christopher's three children because my dad means the world to me, and i cannot imagine him dying so unexpectedly. This article is very emotional and moving, therefor i am left pondering few questions:
How old were Christopher's children?

What kind of relationship did Christopher have with his wife and Children?
What caused the depression Christopher had?
Was Christopher being treated for his depression?
Why would Christopher's family want to reveal their father and husbands suicide to the public?

No one should be allowed to carry credit card debt.
I don't think that people should be allowed to carry credit card debt. Our economy is so bad and they are just worsening the problem. People spend money that they don't have! We can blame the people with credit card debt for that but why are they even allowed to spend money that the don't have anyways? Layaway is acceptable on objects over a certain amount of money. But if a person has multiple things on layaway then they could go in major debt and cause the economy more damage. I agree with the statement no one should be allowed to carry credit card debt.
